Borrowdale Meet, 5th October

Following hotly on the heels of some drastically damp Lakeland weather, a few brave club members slipped on their favourite wet weather gear and headed up towards Keswick for the Borrowdale Meet. In a welcome change, the teams were met with one of the brightest autumn days all summer!

One team ventured to Shepherds Crag and managed to squirm their way up four waterlogged routes to enjoy some excellent views of a rapidly expanding Derwent Water.

The second team aimed further afield, heading to Carrock Fell for some classic boulder problems and a dabble at the fledgling discipline of ‘Shallow Water Soloing’ (similar to Deep Water Soloing but with only 2 foot of water for the landings). Carrock Fell consists of rough, solid gabbro rock and requires plenty of spare skin to be packed in with the butties! Despite the soggy conditions underfoot, the rock was in excellent condition and several classic problems were successfully ‘sent’, climaxing with Pete Holland’s completion of a strenuous and pumpy V2 6a traverse.
