Six members and one guest met at the cottage then enjoyed the walk up Black Sails via the Red Dell path and the incline (see picture). We sat down to eat our pack ups on the summit and were surprised and thrilled to see an eagle soaring over Bowfell area. As it was such a hot day we decided to go up Wetherlam instead of Brimfell and the Old Man then back to the cottage for a refreshing cuppa.

BMSC Onich Meet Report

Only three members (Roger Mellen and Margaret & John Harrison) attended the Scottish meet staying at the Alex McIntire Hut, probably due to the poor weather forecast for the weekend.

It was blustery and showery on the Saturday morning, but not to be deterred Roger and John went to the Buachaille where they made an exciting ascent of D Gully Buttress, then continued to the summit via Curved Ridge. On the summit they bumped into a work colleague who had walked up. It’s a small world! The pair then traversed a very windy ridge to the far end to bag the recently - promoted - to - Munro - status top of Stob na Broige.

The round was completed by returning part way along the ridge, then dropping down the North West flank into Lairig Gartain.

Meanwhile Margaret spent the morning at the hut doing some crafts then caught the bus into Fort William for some retail therapy.

On the Sunday the pair headed for Kinlochleven from where they made an ascent of Sgurr Eilde Mor (1010m), a beautiful outlier of the Mamores. During the walk the pair experienced “four seasons in one day” with the weather swinging from fine and sunny, to heavy rain and low cloud, from calm to blowing a gale, and unleashing a full on blizzard near the summit for good measure!
