Nailed boots for sale

Fred Nicholson, who used to climb with some of our members in the 1960’s and now lives in Morecambe, has for sale a pair of Shepherds boots, size 10, which are semi-sprung. These have been specially made very recently and only worn once. They are fully nailed with clinkers and muggers and cost £250. He is willing to accept £120 for them. He is also keen to acquire a genuine Swedish Bergen rucsac. Fred’s telephone number is 01524 840729.

BMSC Alpine meet September 2009.

What a great week we had! It started with cheese, rather a lot of cheese in fact, in the form of “Rosti” - a traditional Swiss dish largely comprised of cheese from what I can gather, possibly seasoned with a splash of potato and some ham. From then on, we were unable to escape complete cheese saturation for the rest of the week, but our taste buds became strangely accustomed and, by the end of the week, I found my cheese cravings quite unbearable if I did not have at least three cheese based meals daily...

We speculated on how the locals could eat such a large amount of cheese without the expected gains in body mass one would expect from such a diet, but we soon found that time at altitude, whether climbing a 4000m peak or indeed just the stairs from the cable cars to the high level cafes (!), worked up quite a hunger which could only be satisfied apparently by the local favourite food.
