and the Lakeland fells. Paul Moore recorded his rock climbing year in the Lakes, Wales and Spain on digital format and Steve Nelson took us along the Corsican High level route.

Wine and nibbles were polished off and a good time had by all. Thanks to Jim and Betty for arranging everything.

The Annual Quiz Night

The Annual Quiz on Friday 8th February was held in the Gleaston Village Hall.  This is a good venue for our social events, with an in situ digital projection facilities and kitchen for coffee, tea, etc.  To overcome the lack of a bar, the Club have, to date, provided free wine and nibbles to all who have attended.

The quiz was based on a general knowledge of mountaineering, split into several sections, which included The Lakes, The Alps, Worldwide, Rock-climbing, Personalities, etc, and finished with a “Where’s This” slide presentation. Prizes were handed out to the winner, Colin McCreath, the runner up, John Harrison, plus a booby prize for the lowest score, which was, in fact, the most expensive of the three prizes.

A lot of work goes into setting up these quizzes, which are not intended to be a serious affair, so it was a little disappointing that only nine members turned out.  Those who did seemed to enjoy an evening of fun and banter, no doubt helped along by the free wine.

Peter and Margaret Fleming showed slides of a recent trip to China and we watched the DVD "Set in Stone" featuring the climbs of Dave Birkett.
