before long a snag was encountered, where the footbridge over the Beck had been demolished by a fallen tree. John & Roger recc’ed a route across and after a bit of a scramble we all got across, then to be told by a passing local that had we been seen we would have been in trouble with the landowner, who was a “reet miserable bugger”. We were swiftly on our way after that.
The Broken Footbridge
Through Ickornshaw, where the rain actually stopped, to our relief, then up onto the Pennine Way for a while, before branching off to pick up the route to take us across to Wainmans Pinnacle, standing out on the skyline on Earl Crag. There are great views from here and a few photos were snapped off; then along the escarpment to Lund’s Tower where we climbed the latter’s spiral staircase to gaze around from there. Below the crags a horde of scramble bikers were chewing-up the hillside; eventually it will become a clay field, sad! I wonder, would they allow it below Dow Crag? |
