before long a snag was encountered, where the footbridge over the Beck had been demolished by a fallen tree. John & Roger recc’ed a route across and after a bit of  a scramble we all got across, then to be told by a passing local that had we been seen we would have been in trouble with the landowner, who was a “reet miserable bugger”. We were swiftly on our way after that.

Through Ickornshaw, where the rain actually stopped, to our relief, then up onto the Pennine Way for a while, before branching off to pick up the route to take us across to Wainmans Pinnacle, standing out on the skyline on Earl Crag. There are great views from here and a few photos were snapped off; then along the escarpment to Lund’s Tower where we climbed the latter’s spiral staircase to gaze around from there. Below the crags a horde of scramble bikers were chewing-up the

hillside; eventually it will become a clay field, sad! I wonder, would they allow it below Dow Crag?
