Dave's Last Climb On August 26th 2007 Colin McCreath, Rob McFall and Howerd McDonald scattered the remaining ashes of David Winstanley on the summit of Goat Crag, Eskdale GR204017. An area of SW-facing granite slabs approximately 130foot high, which became a favourite venue for Dave in his later years. Dave's last climb was Monolith Slab, a mild severe. As we ascended the crux move was enhanced by Dave's urn lurching the wrong way, causing a member of the party to "barn door" across the slab (a parting shot from Dave - perhaps!). The climb was completed without any further intervention and the ashes scattered amongst the summit rocks, which give a superb view of the Scafells and Upper Eskdale. Definitely a resting place with a view. C. McCreath |

Welcome Four new members were accepted into the club at the September committee meeting. Welcome to Mary Giles, Peter Holland, Mhari Cameron and Paul Moore. We look for seeing you on meets in the near future.
Congratulations To Sue Allen on completing all the Monroes. Her final Munro was Ben Chonzie, ascended on the weekend of September 7th. I understand that there was a big party afterwards.
To Jim Roskell on climbing Coniston Old Man. As members will know Jim has been unwell for some time, so this represents a remarkable recovery since February. Jim and Betty have only An Tealach to do to complete their list of Monros. If Jim’s recovery continues could this be a target? |
